Annual Report

Councillor Martin Oliver – Mountjoy & Shide

·       In the last year I have attended & participated in

o   Full Council meetings,

o   Extraordinary Meeting of Full Council

o   Planning Committee Meetings

o   Planning site visits

o   Appeals Sub Committee (Now relinquished)

o   Substitute on Policy and Scrutiny Committee for Children's Services, Education and Skills

It is always a pleasure to meet and try to help residents with a variety of issues. Amongst other things, I have dealt with pothole issues, traffic concerns, road safety and speeding are ongoing issues which I am collaborating with residents, parish councils and Island Roads to address.

Being a councillor continues to mostly be a positive experience, it is sometimes difficult managing residents’ expectations against what can be achieved in such a difficult financial period for our council and our community.

I was proud to represent the ward at Newport Minster for HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Service, along with sadly representing the ward at the Commemoration Service marking her death.

I was humbled to lay a wreath from the residents of Mountjoy & Shide at the annual Remembrance service at Newport Cenotaph.

Although I do not hold regular surgeries as such, I will try to make myself available at any time to help with any related problems residents may have. I always pride myself on contacting residents promptly and doing my absolute best to listen and help them if possible.

I remain proud to represent Mountjoy & Shide on both the Isle of Wight Council and Newport & Carisbrooke Community Council. I will continue to give my best in the forthcoming year and I thank residents for their support.
