Councillor Joe Lever – Carisbrooke and Gunville

I’ve proudly been the councillor for Carisbrooke & Gunville for the past three years. During that time I've been working hard representing residents of my ward. Below is a brief summary of some of that work.

·       100% attendance at all IWC full council meetings since my election.

·       Had the privilege of being the Vice Chair of the Policy and Scrutiny Committee for Neighbourhoods & Regeneration this past year.

·       Currently sitting on all three of the IWC policy and scrutiny committees, in addition to the corporate scrutiny committee.

·       Successfully reversing a council decision to remove the Exceptional Hardship Fund for Island residents, which allows council tax relief for those most in need.

·       Regularly attending meetings of various community organisations, allowing them to raise issues with me on behalf of residents and I provide them with updates on my activity.

·       Heavily active in the emergency response to the flooding events of the previous winter with a huge amount of continued work in trying to secure actions and agreements from relevant parties to mitigate future flood risk.

·       I’ve been following up multiple planning enforcement issues getting resolutions for residents, most recently seeing welcome action on the clock tower and chimney on the Wightcroft Park Estate.

·       Worked with residents to feed into the Traffic Order Regulation (TRO) review for district 2, which includes Carisbrooke & Gunville.

·       I’m also in the process of submitting requests and evidence for a number of new TROs to be considered by the local authority and Island Roads.

·       Chasing local development companies on numerous occasions regarding slack maintenance of their sites.

·       I continue to work with residents and community groups on organising local events.

If any resident has any questions on the above or have an issue not mentioned here please get in touch via email joe.lever@iow.gov.uk or call 07736663657.
