Annual Report

I continue to help and support residents across the Ryde North West Ward working  to find solutions to a wide range of issues that residents need to resolve. I am pleased  that over 95% of enquiries and problems have been dealt with to the satisfaction of the residents concerned.

As a Member of the Ryde Regeneration group and the Ryde High Street Action Zone steering group I have been active in bringing forward improvements to our town centre which include a new shopfront design guide, grants available to shop owners to improve their shopfronts, and currently working on final pedestrianisation of the High Street and improved public space areas, including planning for improved High Street surfacing in the next two years.

I continue to work on the restoration of important buildings in Ryde, including Vectis Hall and St Thomas’s church, and as Chair of Finance and member of the Town Hall working group for Ryde Town Council, negotiating the acquisition of the Town Hall and the benefit of bringing the building back into community use.

My wider role as Cabinet Member for Transport & Infrastructure has meant dedicating time to resolving countless issues within the Highways PFI contract, improving the ferry operator services, delivering the Bus Service Improvement Plan and working on the wider Local Transport Plan 4 which will be effective from 2023 until 2038 including the roll out of Electric Vehicle Charging Points (EVCP)which is delivering a scheme for on and off-road charging points in twenty-three locations across the Island.  Completion and connection due in the summer of 2022.

I participate in ongoing actions to resolve the Floating Bridge issue and am working towards a solution using Mediation with designers and builders of the vessel to restore confidence in this service by providing a reliable and sustainable service.
