Councillor Ian Dore - Binstead and Fishbourne

My priority work included the reduction of speeding in the Ward and so I created a Speedwatch Campaign. We have around 15 volunteers all raring to go and this will have a positive impact. The training has been hampered by Covid, but we are very close to launching now.

Speed assessments have been carried out and I have also taken receipt of two speeding petitions from residents. Once analysed, I will be acting in their best interests. At Full Council I spoke in opposition to mobile speeding cameras, arguing that a Road Policing Unit is a better solution. I am pleased to say that this has now come to fruition and officers are being recruited.

In July, my priority work was hampered by the horrific flooding. I began working with various agencies for immediate resolve and ensuring that residents were supported. This led to the S19 report and fighting at Full Council to ensure that funding for priority work, was committed to in the Budget.

Day to day work is chatting with residents, trying to find solutions to their problems. Examples of this include helping residents in Fishbourne get a parking restriction on the green, ensuring the gates on Ladies Walk were repaired and sign posting to Council Services.

I was incredibly privileged to be elected as the Isle of Wights Armed Forces Champion and have attended a number of engagements in that role. These include reading at Remembrance Day, Chairing the Civil Military Partnership and pushing the sign up of the Armed Forces Covenant.

Local highlights have included speaking to 1st Ryde, 1st Binstead Beavers and attending the Disability Sailing Day at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club.

Essentially, I’m doing what I committed to do. Standing up for the community.
