Annual Report
Councillor George Cameron – Freshwater North Ward
This year I continued to support Freshwater Parish Council as a full member of the Council, I think this is an important link between the people of Freshwater and County Hall. I liaise frequently with our office and deal with any issues that is presented to me on behalf of the Parish.
I am also continuing to represent the people of Freshwater on three different committees which are: Planning, Policy and Scrutiny Committee for Adult Social Care and Health Services and lastly the Policy and Scrutiny Committee for Children’s Services, Education and Skills. I worked with other members and officers to make sure the West Wight schools reorganisation went smoothly. I attend partner agency meetings such as NHS Trust and the IW CCG meetings as regularly as I can which gives me the background on issues in order to scrutinise them properly. I am also a representative of the authority on SACRE who give access to young people’s religious education.
Last May I was elected as the Chairman for the IOW Council, a role which I enjoy as much as the other committees and I feel proud to promote our island on the mainland when I attend events. At present I am working on arranging a school exchange between the Isle of Wight and our twinning town of Coburg in Germany, this project is delayed until it will be safe to do so after the Covid-19 pandemic. I also keep in close contact with our other twinning associations especially the County Isle of Wight in Virginia.
Locally I keep meeting our Highways District Supervisor and our housing officers on a regular basis and work with them to improve the area or services in Freshwater.
