Annual Report

Annual Report – April 2023

Having moved on from the difficulties of Covid, and hoping for a brighter future, sadly we find ourselves in equally challenging times. No one in the local  community of Lake North has been immune from the effects of inflation. But for some of the most vulnerable in our community, those challenges can seem overwhelming. I urge residents in need to access the council advise on ‘cost of living’ support at www.iow.gov.uk/costofliving

During this same period, the arrival of the new trains, and train times has been a very positive change for Lake. Unfortunately, this improved connectivity has been hampered in recent months by the works to Ryde Pier. In addition, we now have 3 months of road diversions as the rail bridge on Lake Hill is worked on. With luck this work will not drag on into Summer 2023 and Lake residents will once again see the benefits of the rail investment.

Another positive change in the Lake North area has been the completion of the Full Fibre roll out. Whilst there was a lot of disruption to the road network during the roll out, one hopes the better internet connectivity can benefit individuals and the wider community alike.

On the theme of roads, Lake has seen some minor positive changes, such as new yellow lines to go in and improve waste contractor access to Fairmead Close. However, I continue to work with Parish and IW council colleagues, so far without success, to see some change to the Lake Hill/Fairway junction. This junction has seen numerous accidents and many near misses. I urge residents to report near misses to me or to IW Highways to help establish the data to drive change to this junction.

I wish all Lake North residents well for the coming year.
