Councillor Clare Mosdell – Newchurch, Havenstreet and Ashey Ward
Attended all but one Full Council Meetings.
There have been many issues within the Ward which I have been working to try to resolve; many linked to highways related issues. The Council has made it clear that there will be no work on individual schemes until the full speeding review has been completed and this means that we will not be able to progress more detailed discussions on speeding in Newchurch and Havenstreet, although as ward councillor I have continued to press the issue and have set out very clearly to the council the issues that we need to be addressed in this area.
The lack of Officers within planning and enforcement continues to cause frustration for residents which is understandable, however I supported a budget amendment which allocates more money for planning, including enforcement, however the issues with recruitment and staff retention within the planning department continue to cause huge issues. The Cabinet should now prove that they allocated funds to better resource the department. Residents are waiting long periods of time and contacting councillors to try and chase for planning decisions that have not been made within required timescales which is causing huge frustrations for residents and of course developers.
I see a critical part of my role as ward councillor as seeking to work with all councillors for the good of the Island Community and this is something that I will continue to make clear to my councillor colleagues so that we do not see important Island and local issues affected by political posturing, this is only getting worse with such a divided council.
