Welcome to My Website
I am the former Geoff Lumley - name changed by Deed Poll May 2017.
On 4 May 2017 the people of Newport East ward (the communities of Pan, Barton and Shide) honoured me by re-electing me overwhelmingly for a fourth time as their IW councillor (and Newport Community councillor) for the next 4 years. It will, as ever, continue to be my role to challenge, hold to account and scrutinise the decisions of the Council leadership. Of course I will spend most of my time on ward matters, which is my main function. I hope I will continue to get the balance right.
Please leave messages on my Home phone number and I will get back to you within 24 hours, unless I am away. I also generally respond to emails within 24 hours, particularly those from residents, again unless I am away.
Since I was first elected I have produced a regular newsletter that is delivered to all households throughout my electoral division. Should you not receive those newsletters, please feel free to contact me.
I live two minutes walk outside Newport East, in Fairlee Road, with my partner Mary. I have lived in Newport for 28 years and 31 years on the Island in total, having moved here from London - where I gained a BSc honours degree at the London School of Economics in 1979. Originally I am from Sunderland and then Durham in the north east - which you will be able to tell when I speak! I am now 63 years old.
I took early retirement in 2013 after a working life in local government (20 years in housing and social services) and then the civil service (14 years). Throughout my working life I was an active trade unionist and I retain retired and community membership.
I have been involved in Pan issues for over 25 years and am delighted to be both it's and Shide's elected representative at County Hall.
CHANGE OF SURNAME:- As of 8 May 2017 I reverted my surname by Deed Poll to my birth surname of BRODIE. I was adopted by my stepfather as a child. As my mother died in 2015 I have decided to revert to the surname of my long-deceased father, Edward Alan Brodie who died after an epileptic fit a few years before my mother re-married.
Annual Report 2020
Councillor Geoff Brodie – Newport East Ward
As I have done for the past 15 years, I write, publish and my excellent team deliver to every household a quarterly 'Briefing' to keep Newport East residents updated of my work on their behalf. These are generally well received. Back copies are always available from me.
